I am a Play Therapist and have been trained in EMDR. Humor, compassion, empowerment and honesty are often present as I help others work through whatever challenges they may bring to our meetings.  I work towards building genuine and trusting relationships with the people I work with as I believe this is the true space for change.  I like to encourage use of experiences and art or play to explore, learn and make meaning. I am excited to join you on your path towards making change and can't wait to get started.

Salutations!
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor offering mental, emotional, and behavioral support to teens, men, women, parents, couples, and families. I have been providing services in the mental health field for over 27 years; starting in the corporate foster care setting and then transitioning to providing psychotherapy/counseling for the past 5. I have worked with persons suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, depression, anxiety, trauma, adoption, alcoholism, couples conflict, and anger.  I practice primarily from a person-centered, cognitive behavioral approach as well as a solutions focused perspective, adding additional theoretical interventions into practice when appropriate. I have a Master's of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University and an Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Gustavus Adolphus College. I am trained in TF-CBT, a trauma focused intervention for persons under the age of 18 years old to address unresolved past trauma. I am always looking for additional training in areas that are research-based and proven helpful.
In sessions with individuals, I tend to let them lead the direction of the session in order to get their needs met. I promote exploration of self, building awareness to underlying causes of emotions that tend to prevent them from feeling successful in life.  I support individuals with building skills to master emotional regulation, using their strengths to feel comfortable doing so. I will challenge when our relationship is strong enough to do so, or if asked. I incorporate activities into sessions when appropriate and desired. I encourage others to view wellness through an integrative lens and am open to exploring these areas with individuals I work with.

Some of the areas I have experience and training in are:
0-5 Assessments & Treatment, ADHD, Adjustment/Transitions, Anxiety/Stress, Behavioral Issues, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Depression, Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Trained, Emotion Dysregulation, Family Conflict/Changes, Grief/Loss, LGBTQ+, Parenting, Self-Exploration/Self-Esteem & Trauma.

Counselor

Hello.
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of MN. I have worked in many areas of mental health over the past 12 years. I am passionate about working with adolescents and their developing brains and enjoy helping them find their sense of self. Mostly, I love to build trusting relationships and help people reach their solutions, no matter their age or stage of life.

I have a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Bethel University. And a Graduate Certificate in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, with experience in Art, Play and other Expressive Therapy techniques. I believe that building relationships within therapy is the truest way to healing. I also value taking our concerns seriously, without taking ourselves too seriously and find the power of humor and play during therapy. I view therapy (and much of life outside) from an existential lens and take on the therapeutic relationship with a person-centered stance. If you are sitting in session, you can expect me to listen, reflect and validate your feelings. You can also expect me to challenge you to try something new either in the therapy office or between sessions.

I believe in working together to help you reach your goals.

Some of the areas I have experience and training in are:
Expressive Therapies, Play Therapy, CBT, Holistic Practices, Compassion Fatigue, Crisis Response and Grief Counseling/Support. Adjustment/Transitions, Anxiety/Stress, Depression, Emotion Dysregulation and Mood Disorders, Family Conflict/Changes, Motivational Interviewing, Self-Exploration/Self-Esteem, Strengths-focused, Telemedicine & Trauma.
